OBAMA: THE COOL CAMPAIGNER IS COMIN ALIVE
No matter how you grade President Obama’s performance in his first term in office, you gotta give it to him – the man is hell on the campaign trail.
At times during his tenure in office Obama has seemed almost bored. He hasn’t once visibly lost his cool, even in the face of crazy Republican insults and stubborn political blockades. There have been moments, though, when Obama’s bland facial expressions seemed to suggest he’s fed up with “silly season” politics.
But something about campaigning seems to light his wick. We’ve seen it during spirited speeches delivered in recent weeks. We saw it months ago, when he appeared on the stage of Harlem’s Apollo Theater and broke into an Al Green tune. We saw it again last night, when he turned up on Jimmy Fallon’s show and did a fun skit called “Slow Jammin the News.”
Maybe Obama is going after the precious youth vote again. Maybe he refuses to take Washington insiders as seriously as they take themselves. Whatever the motive, the result was smart and fun.
